Other prerequsites: | Knowledge at the level of Detection of Ionizing Radiation, Nuclear Chemistry 1 and 2 and Laboratory exercises in Radiochemistry techniques or their equivalents. If not sure ask course leaders. |
Annotation: | In this course, students are practically acquainted with the basics and principles of ionizing radiation detection, interaction of ionizing radiation with matter and the function and operating parameters of different types of detectors and detection assemblies, specifically the measurement of the platform and dead spot of the GM tube, optimization of parameters in gamma scintillation setup measurements, the statistical nature of radioactive decay, liquid scintillation spectrometry including alpha and beta radiation measurements, neutron measurements, determination of radionuclides - gamma emitters - in environmental samples, and alpha radiation spectrometry. |
Structure: | Graduates will gain knowledge of the principles of ionizing radiation detection and the ability to correctly select and set up a detection system for measuring different types and energies of radiation, including the evaluation of the results. |
